The history and adaptation of CitiBike, New York City's fastest growing form of transportation.
Zack was the first person I intervied for the film. Figures he'd be the highest number. Let's see if anyone can beat it.
Heidi is the second person intervied.
Sam is the third person I intervied
Most regular CitiBike users know three things. One, to put a helmet on your head. Two, does the CitiBike have a Green light on it's dock connection, meaning it is ready for rental. And three, what their seat height number is.
This documentary film will explore the history, as well as the future of the CitiBike system. Here is a sample of its history and deployement:
CitiBike began operations on May 27, 2013, with 332 stations. The stations were located in Manhattan south of 59th Street and in Brooklyn north of Atlantic Avenue and west of Nostrand Avenue. The system opened with 6,000 bikes. At the time of implementation, it was the largest bikesharing program in the United States. When launched, the system was slated to expand to 10,000 bicycles and 600 stations in Manhattan south of 79th Street, plus stations in several Brooklyn neighborhoods, including Greenpoint, Crown Heights, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Park Slope and Carroll Gardens as well as parts of Queens.
As of September 2023, there were 1,915 stations, with 33,000 bikes in operation that around 131,290 users a day ride.
Production has begun on this film, but in the meantime, check out what else is going on, and what other films we are working on.
I have conceived of, and written a lot of documentary films, sometimes as many as three a week. This is in addition to the many other commercial, narrative and TV series work I do.
I've also written several narrative films and a few TV series, but they can't be discussed here.
